Interview with Tracie Mcswain
Tracie, you are an inspiration for so many, thank you for taking the time out to answer these questions. Keep up the wonderful work you do for the community and keep on shining your light on the world
What does wellness mean to you? Wellness to me is feeling well within your inside world and your outside world, simultaneously. Nurturing your mind, body and soul but also your relationships, environment and your 'why'. The reason I called my business 'whole you' is because I want to help people feel 'whole' in all areas of their life because that, to me, equals wellness.
2. What does your morning routine look like? I'm an early riser so I get up at 5:15am every morning and I have about 800ml of warm lemon water straight away. I then either do a 10-15 minute meditation or lately I've changed this for a Tai Chi sequence in the backyard (facing the east with my shoes off - sounds a bit 'cray cray' but it's brilliant). It's such a beautiful way to start your day in a calm state and switch on your parasympathetic nervous system to tell your body you are safe. I then train some clients and then come home and make my smoothie bowl then take my dog, Hunter, for a walk in the beautiful bushland.
3. What are some of your top tips for staying healthy & looking after yourself? My number one tip is to realise why it is a priority for you. Unless we decide exactly why taking care of our health is important to us, we simply won't sustain it! It might be to live as long as you can, to be able to play with your kids and grandkids as long as possible, to be able to travel, to clear up your skin etc. It will be different for everyone so work out why being fit and healthy is going to benefit your life and then you will be more likely to sustain it. Another tip would be to simply start one thing to benefit your wellbeing. That might be just to start drinking more water or walking for 20 minutes a day. Starting small will create a snowball effect and you'll be wanting to add more goodness into your life before long.
4. Why is self care so important? We only get one body, right?! We are so precious! Our bodies are walking, talking miracles that do so much for us without us even realising. Without our health, we can't live life to our potential and self care is a way of giving back to our body for what it is continuously doing for us, day in - day out.
5. What is one tip that you wish you knew when you first started your health & wellness journey ? I wish I knew more about our hormones - they are everything when it comes to our wellbeing. I started my journey when I was quite young so health to me was mostly aesthetics. Things have changed along the way and now health to me to more of a feeling within. A calm. A contentedness. And loving yourself silly - no matter what. It's not easy and it takes practice but it's a beautiful thing when we start to accept ourself the way we are. But it's all about learning and growing. You don't know what you don't know so as long as we continue to learn and grow, we will be just fine.
